Super Energy-saving Insulating Glass Reduces Building Energy Consumption

Release time:

2013-11-11

Summary: According to Professor Liu Zhongwei, expert of Aluminum Door Window Curtain Wall Committee of China Construction Metal Structure Association, current total energy consumption is huge and is increasing every year, in which the energy consumption of glass doors and windows is 40%-50% of the total energy consumption. The super energy-saving insulating glass is an essential technology breakthrough.

It is learnt that the first super energy-saving insulated glass has been put into use in Chongqing. Theoretically, it can save over 1000 degrees of electricity for a building of 100 square meters each year. According to Professor Liu Zhongwei, expert of Aluminum Door Window Curtain Wall Committee of China Construction Metal Structure Association, current total energy consumption is huge and is increasing every year, in which the energy consumption of glass doors and windows is 40%-50% of the total energy consumption. The super energy-saving insulating glass is an essential technology breakthrough.

“‘Super energy-saving insulating glass’ is a national initiative. It has combined the characteristics of ‘online Low-E coated glass’ and ‘off-line Low-E coated glass’, and demonstrates outstanding advantages in thermal insulation performance. Meeting the same thermal insulation and energy-saving requirements, super insulating energy-saving glass can replace any currently available insulating glass of common configurations, while minimizes materials used in architectural glass and profiles, and reduces the structure weight to the lightest. ”

Specifically speaking, in winter, a single glass pane loses about 30%-50% of heat created under the condition of heating or air conditioning; while in summer, solar radiation goes through a single glass pane and wastes 20%-30% of the amount of cold air produced by air conditioner. “Improving the insulation of windows and doors is one of the important means to reduce energy consumption in buildings”, said Liu Zhongwei.

It is also informed that at present, public buildings in the city of Chongqing account for around 20% of total construction. Starting from December 1st of this year, a new version of the Public Building Energy-saving (green building) Design Standards has been implemented in the city’s major center areas, and for public buildings within the jurisdiction of liangjiang new areas. On the basis of revising some existing standards and provisions, the new version has added several mandatory provisions such as transparent roof area cannot exceed 20% of the total roof area.
