Successful Development of Formaldehyde-free Artificial Board

Through more than 10 years of efforts, Professor Jin Chunde of Zhejiang Forestry College now has successfully developed several formaldehyde-free artificial board production techniques, which may be applied to fiber board, bamboo particle board, wood particle board, plywood, and blockboard etc. As glue-free technique has been adopted, the board will not contain any formaldehyde with performance in all aspects reaching or even preceding the standard of common artificial board.

 

Prof. Jin says that the new technique utilizes chemical reaction to form a strong chemical bonding force between wood fibers, essentially different from the physical bonding force as adopted in former wet glue-free fiber board or current glued fiber board. Although the hot pressing time in this technique will be a little longer than that as required in current glued fiber board technique, it will not increase or even may decrease the production cost due to the saved cost on glues; moreover, it’s separated from source of free formaldehyde for environmental protection in production of fiber board.

 

The Appraisal Committee considers that this technique is innovative in several aspects.

 

Presently, the glue-free fiber boards produced with this technique has met requirements for premium grades as inspected by Forestry Product Quality Inspection Station of Zhejiang Province, and multiple patents have been applied for.
