The sudden and massive May 12 Wenchuan Earthquake caused 1.52 million people jobless or homeless, 1,449 orphans, widows or widowers, breakdown of telecommunication systems in 108 towns of 8 gravely devastated counties and extensive destruction of buildings in large areas in Sichuan Province.

Undertaking Maintenance of Grassland and Old Trees

In 2007, Xiangshan Botanical Park initiated a campaign of undertaking maintenance of grassland and old trees. To answer the call, China National Decoration Co., Ltd spent 200,000 Yuan on this activity. Every year, China Decoration will turn in a sum of greenbelt maintenance fund, thus making contribution to Beijing’s blue sky recovery program.

At 14:28 of May 12th, 2008, an earthquake of Magnitude 7.8 broke out in Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province, with its aftermath covering several provinces and cities, causing serious death, injuries of people and loss of property. On the afternoon of the same day, the quake news aroused deep attention of managers of China National Decoration Co., Ltd of all levels. Advocated by leaders of the company, a donation activity themed “Love the World and & Aid by Heart” was initiated, where people of China Decoration donated 100,000 Yuan, all transferred to Beijing Dongcheng Red Cross on the same day. Afterwards, some persons were designated to go the quake spot to get the first-hand info of the disaster-struck region.

Recently, affected by cold air from the north, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangxi, Guizhou as well as other provinces at the middle and lower reaches of China’s Yangtze River were controlled by freezing rain and snow weather, rare in the past fifty years, which damaged many houses, broke off electric transmission lines and forced railways, airports and highways to close, detaining many people in the stations. The disaster seriously impacted people’s normal life.

Recently, affected by the strong cold air flow in northern China, many provinces with the middle stream and downstream of Yangtze River like Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangxi and Guizhou experienced rare extreme weather of low temperature, snow and blizzard and suffered a blizzard disaster unprecedented in the past 5 decades, causing collapse of houses, breakage of power transmission lines, and shutdown of railways and highways, and entrapment of many in railway stations, and resulting in severe detriment to people’s life.
